Presurgical Evaluations

Psychological evaluation is often required as a part of determining candidacy for a surgical procedure such as a spinal cord stimulator for chronic pain management or bariatric surgery.  The purpose is to determine any psychiatric or psychosocial conditions that may influence outcome so that they can be properly addressed before the surgery is undertaken.  Dr. Bercaw also has a great deal of experience performing cognitive assessments prior to deep brain stimulation (DBS) implant, which is used for treating Parkinson’s disease and essential tremor, and pre- and post-lumbar puncture with cerebrospinal fluid removal for clinical evaluation of normal pressure hydrocephalus.
