Mild Cognitive Impairment
A change in mental functioning or behavior with older age raises the possibility of dementia. Dr. Bercaw seeks to determine if there is mild cognitive impairment or if there is dementia secondary to a neurodegenerative illness. Common causes of dementia including Alzheimer’s disease, dementia with Lewy bodies, chronic vascular disease/stroke, or frontotemporal lobar degeneration. It is critical to differentiate MCI/dementia from normal aging and other psychiatric causes.
